A Restoration Commons Academy

Roberts Academy

A free humanities education โ€” philosophy, theology, and history, taught with rigor and read with faith.

Most members of the Church never get a college humanities education. Roberts Academy exists so that doesn't matter. Serious courses in philosophy, theology, and history โ€” free, reading-first, and built for self-directed learners โ€” in the spirit of B. H. Roberts, who taught himself everything he knew.

The Curriculum

Philosophy

From the first Greek questions to the medieval synthesis โ€” how the long conversation of the West began, and how to join it.

Theology

The grammar of Christian belief, the history behind it, and where Restoration thought stands within that story.

History

How historians actually work: what we can know about the past, and why honest history is harder โ€” and better โ€” than it looks.

The Name

โ€œI am fully aware that in the minds of many, mental laziness is a virtue, and thinking a sin. But that is not my philosophy.โ€

โ€” B. H. Roberts

Brigham Henry Roberts (1857โ€“1933) arrived in Utah a barefoot immigrant boy who could not read. He became the Restoration's most formidable scholar โ€” historian, theologian, and author of The Truth, The Way, The Life โ€” entirely by teaching himself. This academy is built on his conviction that serious learning is a form of discipleship open to anyone willing to work.
